Catapult/Counterpoint/Soft Skull is seeking interns to provide support to our teams in our Berkeley office. We’re looking for two part-time interns to work 20 hours a week from January 2019 until June 2019. The internship is paid or can be offered for school credit. This is not a remote position, and both interns must be able to work out of our Berkeley office.
Duties will vary widely day-to-day, but we rely on our interns for time-sensitive, essential work. Our California office has hired three previous interns to in-house staff positions and proudly strive to help all of our exemplary interns with their job searches upon completing the internship with us. Typical duties will include packing and mailing books and other promotional materials, researching and gathering media lists, social media research, writing galley letters and pitches, composing press releases, copy editing, and various administrative tasks across the company’s publicity and marketing departments. They will also occasionally assist our editorial departments. Interns will work closely with a variety of talented, motivated, and creative people to gain hands-on experience at one of the largest independent publishers today.
The ideal candidates will be exceptionally detail-oriented, organized, open to constructive feedback, efficient, a clear communicator, interested in learning the business of publishing, self-managed, able to work well in a fast-paced environment, passionate about the literary world, knowledgeable about media outlets (diverse and niche interest knowledge is a plus), and comfortable learning new software and systems. Interns must have and be willing to work on their own computer and must be familiar with Google Drive. InDesign, Photoshop, and Premiere experience is a plus.
People of color, LGBTQIA people, and disabled people are especially encouraged to apply.
